Storm Desmond 2 years on

The Farmer Network are holding an open meeting for farmers to  give them the opportunity to hear from the Environment Agency and other partners, such as Cumbria County Council and the Rivers’ Trusts, what actions have been taken since Storm Desmond and what projects are in the pipeline, particularly the new funding for Natural Flood Management measures. Rory Stewart MP will be speaking at the meeting.

The objectives of the meeting are to:

  • Give farmers the opportunity to find out from the Environment Agency and other partners what has been done in their area since Storm Desmond and what is planned.
  • Enable the Environment Agency and other partners to directly hear the concerns of farmers about the need to consider all measures to reduce flood risk in catchments including gravel management, as well as providing funding for Natural Flood Management.
  • Give a general briefing about the techniques of Natural Flood Management and try to generate interest in attending future workshops looking at NFM measures in the areas of Cumbria that are being targeted for funding.
