Do you know what a moorland habitat in good condition looks like?

At the Cumbria Grazing Forum meeting this month we were shown pictures of moorland that Natural England say are in good condition. These will be used for the self-monitoring scheme on Kinnisde common. This document is valuable, but The Federation believes it is partial. The most obvious question is 'in good condition for what/whom?' There is no mention of the condition relative to grazing. This is not to be negative - its a useful start but a truly comprehensive approach that accounts for livestock grazing and other uses of moorland is more likely to deliver responsible stewardship and sustainable ecosystems.

You can download the information here and use it to compare with the vegetation on your common.
